K/1 Goals Consul School

+Michelle Salt
Because all of our elementary classes are participating in Classroom Champions this year, we did the reveal as a whole group.  We asked the kids questions about Michelle and when someone gave the correct answer, we uncovered a piece of a picture of Michelle in her snowboarding gear.

Since then, we've worked hard learning about what goals are and how to choose them.  After watching Michelle's goal setting video, we watched clips of her Sochi snowboard runs.  The kids coloured the snowboarder picture with their goal written on the snowboard and short term goals on the trees.  These are hanging on our classroom door for all to see.  We also read the books "The Dot," "The Most Magnificent Thing," and "What Do You Do With An Idea" to learn more about goals.

Here are photos of some of us with our final products.

Our School Community Council is also sponsoring our Reading Olympics for a second year.  Kids and parents keep track of minutes spent reading at home.  Prizes are awarded throughout the year when they reach the milestones of 500, 1000, and 2000 minutes read.  Here's a photo of the board we'll be using to keep track of our progress.  We took pictures of the kids on a snowboard and will add them to the board as they return their record sheets with minutes read each week.  Each flag passed equals 100 minutes of reading at home.  The "course" at Starting Gate #1 takes them to the finish line at 500, Gate #2 is 1000 minutes, and Gate #3 is 2000 minutes.
