Goal Setting

The students are so excited to be a part of Classroom Champions. I am asked daily if we have a new video or challenge. The students are really inspired by Tyler. They feel connected to him since many of them had the chance to meet him last year when he attended an assembly at our school. My class seems to really enjoy being part of a community of athletes. They watched the Paralympics at home and would come to school eager to talk about it.

After watching Tyler's video the students could not wait to complete their challenge. In order to create short and long term goals the students created a WOOP. It stands for Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, and Plan. It is a resource from Character Lab that my school and class used last year. I walked the students through the steps and the students recorded their goals. For some students their long term goals were what they want to be when they grow up. For others it was a goal for this year such as doing well in school or getting better at a sport. Their short term goals were very specific and connected to their long term goal.

It was great watching the students get into creating goals. They were so excited to share them with Tyler and the Classroom Champions community. At the end of the activity I had the students keep their WOOP so that throughout the the year they can refer to their goals. We are also big on growth mindset in our class so they know even though they are not there YET if they work hard they can do it.
