The year is off to a great (busy) start and the kids were very excited to learn that they would be apart of the Classroom Champions Program. I was excited that so many of them had watched the Summer Olympics! They were familiar with so many of the sports and they loved seeing the preview of the Paralympics that were just beginning. I spent our first session together discussing the program, what a mentor is, and my experience the last four years. That was fun for me to reminisce about all the great memories that Classroom Champions has provided and it was helpful to build excitement with the kids.
Out reveal day was so cool! The kids could not have been more excited trying to guess who our mentor would be. They even took that excitement home and many looked up the athletes with their families! That is my goal this year to create a more connection with the program at home!
I created a slideshow with all this year's athletes and narrowed them down to Nate by using clues. With each new clue the excitement was building and when it was revealed that it was Nate, the kids were all cheering! Since the Paralympics were just starting, it was perfect timing! The kids were also so excited to watch his video and a roar went over the crowd when they found out he lives in our state!!! "Go Pack!" is a familiar saying around here!
We watched recaps of Nate's games and when I told the kids on Monday that Nate won the gold, they were so proud!! I loved the looks on their faces. What a great way to lead into Goal Setting!
Here is a Congratulations for Nate, We are Proud of You!
